Why Website Submission or Search Engine Submission Alone May Not Work:

The frequency of your search engine submissions may not be as critical as one might believe:

When submitting a website URL to a major search engine, you are asking the search engine spiders to visit your website and evaluate it, if the search engine spiders cannot find what they feel is useful on the website site, they will probably not index the website. It therefore, may not make logical sense to submit a website multiple times if it is not primed and edited for search engine spidering. Editing a website is a crucial step to any internet marketing strategy; search engines must be able to distinguish the themes of a website. They also need to find related text and links on the web pages, and they need to find the keywords for which high rankings are desired on the web pages.

Submitting alone does not guarantee visitors:

Submitting a website to search engines is important, but it is secondary in the internet marketing scheme. It is much more important that web pages are optimized for search engine spiders. Many websites are designed in a way that may prevent them from being visible in search engines, meaning that if web pages are not search engine ready, it is usually ineffective to submit them. If the search engines index the website at all, it will probably be listed poorly, and with a poor listing it will most likely draw little traffic.

The key to successful search engine submission:

Before submitting web pages to search engines, they should be properly optimized for the most important keywords and for the special search engines to be targeted. If web pages are prepared for a special search engine and for a special keyword it is much more likely that the website will receive high rankings. Also, it should probably be made sure that all web pages contain enough text and that search engine spiders can find the pages of your website trough normal text links, by means of a solid internal link structure. It is not advisable to use website intros, and likewise, it is potentially problematic to use certain Flash elements on the website due to long loading times. It is extra work to optimize your web pages for search engines; however, it is well worth the effort in the long term scheme of your internet marketing strategy.

Professional search engine submission takes some time:

Be aware of services that might promise to submit your website to thousands of search engines. It may only result in thousands of spam messages. Instead, you may invest some time in researching whether or not to have your website optimized before submitting them; then submitting your site to important search engines would be more productive and fruitful for your long term objectives.
